The Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) may consider invoking Article 25 of the CSTO charter against Armenia if a corresponding agenda is approved, CSTO Secretary General Taalatbek Masadykov told reporters on the sidelines of the 4th Minsk International Conference on Eurasian Security.
Article 25 of the CSTO Charter reads that, "in case of the Member States failure to fulfil the obligations on repayment of indebtedness to the Organization budget within two years, the Council shall adopt a resolution on retention of the right to propose the citizens of this state to the quota positions within the framework of the Organization, as well as on vote deprivation in the Organization bodies until full repayment of the indebtedness," The Caspian Post reports, citing TASS.
Earlier, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated that Yerevan saw no possibility of returning to the CSTO.
"This year, if the agenda is approved on the 10th [of November], the Collective Security Council will consider this issue. The decision to suspend [its participation] was an Armenian decision, while what the leaders of our countries decide at a Collective Security Council meeting will be known after the meeting," Masadykov said.
"This is about membership fees and, let’s say, [Armenia] being present but not participating in CSTO activities [for a third year already]," he explained.
