Egg-Sized Hail Devastates Crops in Armenian Villages, Leaving Farmers Reeling

Severe hailstorms have caused widespread destruction in several villages in Armenia’s Tavush Province, with residents reporting that crops were virtually wiped out after hailstones as large as chicken eggs pounded the region.

The hardest-hit communities in the Noyemberyan area include Baghanis, Jujevan, Koti, Voskevan, and Voskepar, where intense rainfall and powerful hailstorms damaged agricultural land, homes, and infrastructure, The Caspian Post reports via Sputnik Armenia.

The storm delivered a devastating blow to farmers already struggling with previous weather-related losses.

“Yesterday’s hail finished off what was still left,” said Voskepar administrative head Ishkhan Agbalyan, noting that nearly the entire harvest of fruits and vegetables in the area has been destroyed.

Beyond the agricultural damage, the extreme weather also affected power lines and gas pipelines. Essential infrastructure has since been restored, but many residents continue to deal with significant property damage.

In the village of Voskevan, local officials said numerous homes suffered broken windows, while roofs, solar panels, and vehicles were also damaged by the hailstorm.
