Minister: US Delegation to Visit Armenia for “Trump Route” Project

Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan has stated that a US delegation is set to arrive in Armenia in the coming days as part of the implementation of the “Trump Route” project, a 42-kilometer section of the Zangezur corridor running through Armenian territory.

The minister recalled that the agreement to establish the corridor was reached during a joint summit in Washington involving the leaders of the US and Azerbaijan and the prime minister of Armenia, The Caspian Post informs via Armenian media.

“Representatives from the US side will review the route on-site and conduct technical calculations. After that, we will move to the practical implementation phase,” Papoyan said.

He also announced an upcoming visit by a Turkish delegation led by Serdar Kılıç, Türkiye’s special representative for the normalization of Armenia-Türkiye relations.

Highlighting ongoing infrastructure work, Papoyan noted, “Residents of Meghri and Kapan see daily how mountains are being cleared and the new North-South road is taking shape.”

The minister emphasized that the opening of communications will provide Armenia with vital economic opportunities, describing the initiative as the country’s “economic lungs.”

“Besides being landlocked, 75 per cent of Armenia’s land borders remain closed,” he added.

While projections vary on the potential economic impact of ending Armenia’s isolation, Papoyan said studies are underway, noting: “Research indicates that prices for many imported goods could fall significantly. Armenia is forced to import certain products, which are costly due to logistical challenges. Opening these corridors will help address that issue.”
