Rovshan Rustamov, Chairman of "Azerbaijan Railways" CJSC and a member of AZCON Holding, met with David Peradze, General Director of "Georgian Railways" JSC, in Baku, according to Azerbaijan Railways.
The sides discussed cooperation on the development of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway line, the importance of modernizing the Georgian segment of the line, and its role in freight transportation as one of the main segments of the Middle Corridor, The Caspian Post reports citing local media.
The parties exchanged views on strengthening the activities of the “BTKI Railways” LLC joint venture in order to organize freight transportation via BTK-whose annual capacity has been increased to 5 million tons-more efficiently and attract new cargo flows.
The current implementation stage of the roadmap signed in June this year to elevate cooperation to a new level was also reviewed. It was noted that at present, Azerbaijani and Georgian railway specialists are actively and constructively exchanging necessary information to coordinate and optimize joint activities.
The sides emphasized that through working groups and regular direct meetings, enhanced and more efficient cooperation will lead to more effective organization of freight transportation along the East-West-East corridor through both countries.
Additionally, the parties discussed steps to be taken for the implementation of paperless document circulation and the launch of the “Track and Trace” cargo monitoring system in freight transportation via the Middle Corridor by the end of this year.
