Azerbaijan and Kenya Boost Cooperation

Azerbaijan's Ambassador to Kenya, Sultan Hajiyev, held a meeting with Musalia Mudavadi, Kenya's Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs.

The sides hailed the positive dynamics in the development of bilateral relations in 2025. They emphasized that the high-level visits conducted throughout the year have made an important contribution to strengthening cooperation in various fields, The Caspian Post reports citing local media.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi noted that the meeting between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto at the UN headquarters in New York on September 23, as well as the cordial relations between the leaders, serve the interests of both countries.

He also stressed that the first political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and the official visit of Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov to Kenya were important milestones in the development of bilateral ties.

Ambassador Sultan Hajiyev underlined the importance of fully leveraging existing opportunities to expand cooperation and highlighted the progress achieved this year in the fields of energy, technology, judicial and legal affairs, interparliamentary relations, penitentiary services, and education.

He added that the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Azerbaijan’s ADA University and Kenya’s Foreign Service Academy creates new opportunities for expanding partnership between the diplomatic institutions of both countries.

The ambassador provided insight into the preparation process, initiatives, and upcoming events related to the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), scheduled to be held in Baku on May 17-22, 2026. Sultan Hajiyev highlighted that, for the first time in the Forum’s history, heads of state and government will participate in the Summit.

He noted that Azerbaijan, recognized as a global leader in urban planning, and Kenya will enhance cooperation on sustainable urban development and climate-related issues. The ambassador also mentioned that WUF13 will create an important opportunity to expand ties between the COP and WUF platforms.

The parties further emphasized that the scholarships provided to Kenyan youth under the Heydar Aliyev International Education Grant Program, as well as the humanitarian assistance delivered by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Azerbaijan International Development Agency to schools and hospitals in Kenya, have significantly contributed to strengthening the friendly relations between the two peoples.
