Azerbaijan, Georgia Sign Joint Communiqué

A Joint Communiqué has been signed between the governments of Azerbaijan and Georgia, according to the Ministry of Economy.

According to a statement, within the framework of Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze's visit to Azerbaijan to participate in WUF13, the two countries have reaffirmed their strategic partnership by signing a comprehensive package of agreements aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation in the fields of economy, energy, and connectivity, The Caspian Post reports, citing Report.

The signing ceremony took place yesterday in Baku with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze.

Both leaders emphasized the significance of the signed documents in terms of expanding cooperation, particularly the important role of Azerbaijan and Georgia as a connectivity hub for many countries, and the importance of further deepening cooperation in this direction.

The signed documents include intergovernmental agreements on the continuation of transit arrangements for the supply of natural gas to Georgia and additional supply of Azerbaijani natural gas to international markets, the supply of electricity to Georgia and the transit of electricity through Georgian territory to Türkiye as well as the Protocol of the Coordination Council confirming the final acceptance and completion of modernization works carried out within the framework of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project.

For the implementation of the above-mentioned intergovernmental agreements, the relevant state energy companies of both countries have signed Key Terms defining the main commercial parameters of contracts to be concluded no later than October 15, 2026.

Additionally, Key Terms have been signed on the Operating Agreement between the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), its subsidiary SOCAR Midstream Operations LLC (SMO), and the Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation (GOGC), defining the operating conditions of the Georgian section of the Western Route Export Pipeline, including the Supsa Oil Terminal and related infrastructure.

The Protocol of the Coordination Council has also formalized the transfer of relevant railway infrastructure to the BTKI Railways LLC Joint Venture for overseeing the management of the railway line, which is an important step in strengthening regional connectivity. The parties have additionally agreed on the resumption of daily passenger train services on the Baku-Tbilisi-Baku route from May 26.
