Azerbaijan Holds Discussions with Partners on Expanding Southern Gas Corridor

Azerbaijan is consulting with its partners on expanding the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) to boost gas supplies to Europe, SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf said during a panel discussion on the second day of Baku Energy Week

According to him, for the project to be implemented, it is essential that European partners commit to long-term gas purchase agreements and participate in financing the expansion works, The Caspian Post reports, citing Report.

Najaf noted that several projects aimed at increasing Azerbaijan's gas production are already underway: "The Shah Deniz Compression project is currently ongoing. In addition, production of the first non-associated gas from the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) block has begun. The Babak structure, full-scale development of the Absheron field, and other projects will allow additional gas volumes to enter the market in the coming years. These volumes will be directed both to meeting domestic demand and to expanding export opportunities."

The SOCAR President emphasized Azerbaijan's long-term commitment: "In the long-term perspective, Azerbaijan will continue to increase gas production and play an important role in strengthening the energy security of regional countries."
