Romania significantly increased its crude oil imports from Azerbaijan during the first eight months of 2026.

Romania imported 924,913 tons of Azerbaijani crude oil between January and August, representing an 18.8 percent increase from the same period in 2025, The Caspian Post reports, citing the profit.ro portal.

The value of these crude oil imports also rose by 35.5 percent year-on-year, reaching $581.7 million.

According to the portal, Romania accounted for 6.3 percent of Azerbaijan's total crude oil exports, making it the country's third-largest oil buyer after Italy and Czechia.
