Azerbaijan and Uganda have taken a significant step forward in strengthening legal cooperation with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Prosecutor General’s Office of Azerbaijan and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions of Uganda.
The MoU was signed during an official visit by a delegation from Uganda, led by Odumbi James Owere, Director of Public Prosecutions, who is currently in Azerbaijan for a working trip. The delegation was received by Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev, with both sides highlighting the importance of expanding institutional ties in the field of justice, The Caspian Post reports via local media.
In their discussions, the two officials reviewed the growing strategic partnership between their countries, underpinned by close cooperation across various sectors - particularly in legal and judicial matters. Kamran Aliyev noted the successful implementation of Azerbaijan’s ASAN Service model in Uganda as a tangible example of cross-border innovation in public service.
The Prosecutor General also emphasized the longstanding and productive collaboration between Azerbaijan and Uganda within the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). He pointed out that under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan had worked closely with Uganda during its NAM chairmanship, and that this cooperation continues to evolve positively under Uganda’s current leadership of the Movement.
For his part, Odumbi James Owere underlined Uganda’s commitment to furthering cooperation with Azerbaijan, expressing confidence that relations between their respective prosecutorial authorities would continue to grow.
The signing of the MoU was described by both parties as a historic milestone in bilateral legal relations and a framework for deeper cooperation, knowledge exchange, and capacity-building in prosecutorial practices.
During the visit, the Ugandan delegation also toured the History Museum of the Prosecutor General’s Office, gaining insight into the development of Azerbaijan’s prosecution system and its ongoing reforms.
The delegation’s official visit to Azerbaijan continues, with further meetings scheduled to build on the momentum of this latest agreement.
