Azerbaijani Leader Congratulates Turkmenistan on Neutrality Day

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has had a phone call with Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Chairman of Turkmenistan’s Halk Maslahaty (People's Council), congratulating him on the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality.

President Aliyev praised the milestone and conveyed his best wishes to the Turkmen people, The Caspian Post reports via local media.

The Azerbaijani leader noted that December 12 marks the national day of remembrance for Heydar Aliyev and said he would therefore be unable to attend Turkmenistan’s anniversary events. Instead, Azerbaijan’s prime minister will represent the country.

President Aliyev thanked Turkmenistan for the warm reception given to Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Leyla Aliyeva, during her recent visit. He highlighted the new memorandum signed between the Foundation and Turkmenistan’s Charitable Foundation as a strong example of growing cooperation.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed condolences on the anniversary of Heydar Aliyev’s passing and emphasized the National Leader’s historic role in strengthening bilateral relations. He also welcomed Azerbaijan’s accession as a full-fledged participant in the Consultative Meeting of Central Asian Leaders, reaffirming Turkmenistan’s support.

The sides also discussed future cooperation and issues of mutual interest during the call.
