Azerbaijani President Meets With UK’s Minister to Boost Peace and Bilateral Ties

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has met with Stephen Doughty, the UK Minister of State for Europe, North America, and Overseas Territories, to discuss the progress of Azerbaijan’s international partnerships and regional peace efforts.

During the meeting, Doughty congratulated President Aliyev on the historic outcomes achieved in Washington regarding the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia and expressed the UK’s readiness to support ongoing peace initiatives, The Caspian Post informs via local media.

He also highlighted the importance of the Washington agreements for regional transport connectivity.

The UK’s minister praised Azerbaijan’s successful hosting of COP29 last year, recognizing the achievements realized during the climate conference.

President Aliyev thanked Doughty for his congratulations and reiterated Azerbaijan’s commitment to advancing the peace agenda and normalization process with Armenia, recalling the visit of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer to Azerbaijan during COP29 and their productive discussions.

The leaders also discussed the future of Azerbaijan-UK relations, expressing satisfaction with the current political ties and exploring opportunities for cooperation in economic, trade, ICT, education, and other sectors. Energy cooperation was a key focus, with both sides emphasizing the long-standing partnership with bp, which has spanned over 30 years in conventional and renewable energy projects. Both parties expressed confidence that this mutually beneficial collaboration will continue for decades.

The meeting concluded with Stephen Doughty presenting a keepsake to President Aliyev as a gesture of goodwill, underscoring the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries.
