Azerbaijani Teen Boxer Becomes World Champion

Azerbaijani boxer Subhan Mammadov (48 kg) has made history by winning the 2025 IBA Men’s World Boxing Championships, becoming the country’s youngest world champion.

The 19-year-old athlete from the Aghjabadi boxing school secured the title after defeating Edmond Khudoyan of Russia in a tightly contested final, 4:3 on points (30:27, 28:29, 29:28, 30:27, 28:29; judges 1:1), The Caspian Post reports via local media.

Mammadov had previously won the U-23 European Championship in late November.

Azerbaijan’s national team concluded the championship, which featured participants from 120 countries, with 1 gold and 2 bronze medals. Earlier, Alfonso Dominguez (92 kg) and Mahammad Abdullayev (+92 kg) had earned bronze medals, highlighting a strong overall performance.
