Azerbaijan, Thailand Launch First Political Consultations

Azerbaijan and Thailand have held their first-ever political consultations, marking a new stage in bilateral relations between the two countries.

The consultations took place in Bangkok, with the Azerbaijani delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov, who paid a visit to Thailand. Thailand’s delegation was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Vijavat Isarabhakdi, The Caspian Post reports via local media.

During the talks, the sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand. The document formalizes regular dialogue and cooperation between the two foreign ministries.

The discussions focused on the current state and future prospects of bilateral ties, including cooperation in the political, economic, trade, cultural, and tourism sectors. At a meeting with Thailand’s Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow, both sides expressed satisfaction with the current level of political relations, noting that the opening of an embassy and the launch of political consultations would further strengthen cooperation across multiple areas.

As part of the visit, Mammadov also gave interviews to the influential Thai television channel TNN and to the Thai parliamentary TV channel, highlighting Azerbaijan’s foreign policy priorities and interest in deeper engagement with Southeast Asia.
