Georgian Analyst: Azerbaijan Drives Peace and Economic Cooperation in the South Caucasus

Georgian analyst and professor Levan Nikoleishvili, regional secretary of the United Neutral Georgia party, said that Azerbaijan has launched important initiatives to promote peace and stability in the South Caucasus while enhancing the region’s economic and energy potential following the Karabakh war.

The processes carried out particularly at the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev are creating favorable opportunities not only for Azerbaijan but for the South Caucasus as a whole, he said, Report informed.

"Following the end of the Karabakh war, very significant steps have been taken, largely under Azerbaijan's leadership, toward establishing peace in the South Caucasus and further strengthening economic and energy prospects. This is beneficial not only for Azerbaijan but for the Caucasus countries as a whole. Moreover, not only the Caucasus countries but many states around the world, including European countries, are interested in the prospects Azerbaijan possesses," he said.

Nikoleishvili also noted that Azerbaijan's support for Georgia is highly appreciated in the country.

"Georgia's political elite, society and people will never forget Azerbaijan's support. We will always contribute to further strengthening relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia, particularly because the initiatives of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev serve peace and economic development," he said.

Nikoleishvili also discussed the impact of the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) project on the region's transport and economic opportunities, noting that the project is still at an early stage.

"Some people believe that this project could compete with Georgia's transit corridor. We believe that a competitive environment is not necessarily a bad thing. On the contrary, it can contribute to economic development. New transport and energy projects can contribute not only to economic development in the region but also to strengthening peace and stability," he said.
