A 30-member delegation from the Most Traveled People (MTP) club, representing 15 countries, has recently visited the historic city of Shusha as part of their tour of Azerbaijan’s Karabakh and East Zangezur regions.
Led by MTP founder Charles Veley, the group explored Shusha’s Central Square, where they viewed monuments honoring prominent Azerbaijani cultural icons such as Khurshidbanu Natavan, Bulbul, and Uzeyir Hajibeyli-many of which still bear bullet damage from years of conflict, The Caspian Post reports, citing local media.
The delegation received in-depth briefings on Shusha’s rich heritage, its nearly 30-year Armenian occupation, and ongoing restoration efforts aimed at revitalizing the city.
The visitors also toured significant landmarks including the home of Khurshidbanu Natavan, the “Khan Gizi” spring, the historic Walls of Shusha Fortress, and the former prison. They admired stunning panoramic views of the Jidir Duzu plain, famed for its natural beauty.
Over the course of the three-day trip, the delegation will travel by car along a route covering Fuzuli, Khojavend, Shusha, Khankendi, Khojaly, Aghdam, Kalbajar, Lachin, Zangilan, and Jabrayil.
This visit is part of a broader effort to promote Azerbaijan’s recently liberated territories through “dark tourism” while showcasing ongoing large-scale construction and reconstruction projects.
In the last four years, Karabakh and East Zangezur have hosted thirteen major international travel delegations, reflecting growing global interest and support for the region’s recovery and development.
