During his visit to Rome, Azerbaijani Minister of Culture Adil Karimli met with his Italian counterpart, Alessandro Giuli, to discuss prospects for bilateral relations and cultural cooperation.
Giuli highlighted the strong ties between the two countries in trade and energy, noting Italy’s interest in deepening cultural cooperation with Azerbaijan, The Caspian Post reports, citing Azerbaijan's Ministry of Culture.
He also praised the contributions of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation to the restoration of Italy’s and the Vatican’s historical and religious heritage.
Minister Karimli emphasized the growing strength of Azerbaijan-Italy relations, which are based on mutual trust and friendship between the two countries' leaders. He further highlighted the importance of Azerbaijan’s cooperation with Italy.
The Azerbaijani minister also addressed the damage to Azerbaijan's cultural heritage during the occupation of its territories by Armenia, pointing out the destruction and vandalism of centuries-old Azerbaijani monuments. "President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva have prioritized the restoration of these monuments, with Italy playing a role in the reconstruction efforts in the liberated territories," Karimli added.
The meeting also included discussions on other areas of mutual interest.
