China Unveils Satellite-Targeting Microwave Weapon

Chinese researchers have unveiled what is being described as the world’s first microwave weapon capable of targeting satellites in space.

The system, known as TPG1000Cs, reportedly generates microwave power of up to 20 gigawatts, while as little as one gigawatt may be sufficient to disable satellites. Because of its potential impact on satellite constellations, the weapon has already been dubbed a “nightmare for Starlink, The Caspian Post reports via South China Morning Post.

Media accounts note that TPG1000Cs is capable of producing microwave pulses lasting up to 60 seconds. Despite its high power, the system is described as relatively compact-around four meters in length and weighing less than five tons. These characteristics could allow it to be deployed on trucks, aircraft, or even satellites.

Chinese analysts cited by the publication reportedly view satellite networks such as Starlink as among the main strategic challenges in the event of a military conflict, underscoring the growing focus on counter-space technologies.
