Kazakhstan Set to Finalize Construction of Terminal at Georgian Port in 2025

The construction of Kazakhstan’s container terminal at Georgia’s Poti Sea Port was launched in 2023.

“In 2023, a private investor from Kazakhstan began construction of a terminal with a capacity of 120,000 containers per year, investing 30 million US dollars. The construction is underway and slated for completion this April,” said Kazakhstan’s Transport Minister Marat Karabayev, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kazakh media.

According to him, Kazakhstan and Georgia saw a 32% year-over-year rise in freight-rail traffic, totaling 4.7 million tons in 2024. The two countries’ road freight transport rose 17% to 42,000 tons.

As Karabayev said, Kazakhstan’s airlines run 15 weekly flights to Georgia, reaching up to 40 during the tourist season.

Earlier it was reported that freight traffic between Kazakhstan and Georgia had reached 4.5 million tons.
