Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reaffirmed Iran's strong commitment to Syria during a joint press conference with his Syrian counterpart, Bassam al-Sabbagh, on Tuesday.
Araghchi emphasized that Iran has consistently supported Syria and will continue to stand by the Syrian government and people, stressing the importance of enhancing cooperation across various sectors, The Caspian Post reports, citing IRNA.
The two diplomats held "very good and positive" discussions on regional developments, including the situations in Gaza and Lebanon, and ways to further strengthen their strategic relations. Araghchi condemned any attempts to destabilize Syria, reaffirming Iran’s support for the country’s stability and territorial integrity.
Addressing Israeli aggression, Araghchi accused Israel of expanding its warmongering policies, particularly its actions in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria, which he said exposed the Zionist regime’s expansionist and criminal intentions. He called on the international community, including the United Nations, to take a stronger stance and condemn Israeli actions.
Araghchi also stressed Iran’s commitment to defending its sovereignty, stating that any aggression on Iranian soil would be met with a response. He noted that Iran's policy is guided by wisdom and strategic calculation, avoiding hasty or emotional decisions, but warned that Israel's provocations would not go unanswered at the appropriate time. Furthermore, he highlighted that the policy of "maximum pressure" against Iran had been ineffective and met with "maximum resistance" from the Islamic Republic.
