Iranian Foreign Ministry official Davoud Yayegi has been appointed as the country’s new consul general in the Armenian city of Kapan.

Yayegi has diplomatic experience in Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan and Russia. He will replace Morteza Abedin Varamin, who became Kapan’s first consul general when the Iranian consulate began operating there in 2021, according to a statement shared by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s Telegram channel.

Before traveling to Armenia, Yayegi met with Araghchi and presented his plans for his new post. The Iranian foreign minister wished him success and stressed the importance of Iran-Armenia relations as part of Tehran’s good-neighbor policy.

Araghchi also highlighted the need to deepen cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the economic and consular spheres.
