Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova condemned the idea of transferring nuclear weapons to Ukraine, calling it "absolute madness" during a news briefing, The Caspian Post reports, citing Russian media.
"We treat this [the transfer of nuclear weapons to Kyiv] as madness. It is absolute madness, which is imposed by the West on this gang in Ukraine," she said. "I don't know what this motivation is aimed at. It is some kind of stimulating propaganda idea for the West, which they prompt the Kyiv regime."
On November 21, The New York Times reported that some officials in the US and European countries had suggested returning to Ukraine the nuclear weapons that Kyiv had given up after the collapse of the Soviet Union. However, the daily said, such a move is difficult to implement and would have serious consequences, should it materialize.
