Türkiye’s Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK) has announced that the STAR Oil Refinery, operated by the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) and located in Türkiye, significantly increased its production of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
In April 2025, the refinery produced 18,910 tons of LPG -an increase of 13.8 per cent compared to the 16,617 tons recorded in April 2024. The rise underscores STAR’s growing operational capacity and its vital role in regional energy output, The Caspian Post reports via local media.
In addition to increased LPG production, STAR imported 932,104 tons of crude oil in April 2025, reflecting a 7.9 per cent year-on-year rise from 863,654 tons in the same month last year.
Commissioned on October 19, 2018, the STAR Refinery is considered the largest real-sector investment in Türkiye's economy. It plays a central role in integrating refining with petrochemical manufacturing, supporting energy security and industrial output in the region.
As of late 2024, STAR’s annual crude oil processing capacity reached 13 million tons. The facility produces various oil products, including diesel, jet fuel, and naphtha. Its naphtha production almost entirely supplies the feedstock needs of the nearby Petkim petrochemical complex.
