Italian Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Luigi Ferrari, met in Ashgabat with Gabriella Rossi Crespi, Giorgia Scopece, and Giancarlo Gusmaroli-representatives of AICS Sogesid-who are participating in an Italian Cooperation project focused on the regeneration of Lake Aral.
The partnership between Italy and Turkmenistan is being developed both on a bilateral and regional level on environment, climate and water management, The Caspian Post reports citing foreign media. The project envisages environmental remediation and regeneration of contaminated areas in the catchment area of the Aral Sea, which involves the countries of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, with the aim of recovering terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, reclaiming soils, and preserving biodiversity and food chains.Italy's commitment to the regeneration of the Aral Sea was also emphasised recently by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in her speech at the Astana International forum: 'this is a heritage that it is our task and duty to protect,' she said.
