Gasoline and diesel prices in Georgia continued to rise in early September, with the pace of increases accelerating.

Prices at some filling stations increased by 2-14 tetri ($0.008-$0.054) per liter during the first week of the month, according to Sputnik Georgia.

Market participants attribute the rise primarily to higher petroleum product prices on global markets and increased costs for supplies from European refineries. Georgia remains heavily dependent on imported fuel.

Market representatives warn that current wholesale purchasing costs have not yet been fully reflected in retail prices. If global oil product prices remain elevated, fuel prices at Georgian filling stations could rise further in the coming weeks.
