More than half of all international students studying in Georgia are citizens of India, according to a new study by analytics company Galt & Taggart.

The report found that 53.8% of foreign students enrolled at Georgian universities come from India, with the vast majority pursuing medical degrees, The Caspian Post reports via Business Media.

Researchers also noted a sharp increase in international enrollment over recent years. Between 2019 and 2025, the number of foreign students in Georgia tripled, reaching 44,000. International students now account for 19.8% of the country's total student population.

The rapid growth has also boosted the higher education sector's economic contribution. In 2025, revenue generated by Georgia's higher education sector climbed to a record 1.3 billion lari (approximately $495 million).
