A court in Georgia has sentenced two men to 11 years in prison each after finding them guilty of joining the terrorist group ISIS and supporting its activities.

The Tbilisi City Court ruled that one foreign national and one Georgian citizen had joined the terrorist organization, pledged allegiance to its leader, and expressed their willingness to carry out instructions related to terrorist activities, The Caspian Post reports via the Georgian Prosecutor's Office.

During the investigation, authorities seized items bearing ISIS symbols from the defendants, prosecutors said.

The two men were charged under Article 328 of Georgia's Criminal Code, which criminalizes joining a foreign terrorist organization and assisting its terrorist activities.

After reviewing the evidence presented by prosecutors, the court found both defendants guilty and sentenced each of them to 11 years in prison.

The case is part of Georgia's ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and prosecute individuals involved in extremist organizations.
