Georgia to Create New National Park Near Azerbaijani Border

The Committee on Regional Policy and Self-Government of the Georgian Parliament has given initial approval to a draft law proposing the creation of the Tsiv-Gombori National Park.

The project was presented by Zurab Ezugbaya, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, The Caspian Post reports, citing Report.

Under the proposal, a national park covering 21,761 hectares will be created in the municipalities of Sagarejo, Gurjaani, and Telavi in the Kakheti region, near the border with Azerbaijan. The project also provides for the establishment of the Signagi Nature Reserve and the Tsiv-Gombori Protected Area.

The main objective of the initiative is to preserve biodiversity, protect forest ecosystems, and promote ecotourism in the region.

The draft law has been recommended for consideration at a plenary session of the Georgian Parliament.
