Iranian authorities have prevented an attempted infiltration by a group of militants linked to the Kurdish extremist group PJAK (Kurdistan Free Life Party).
A large group of militants, reportedly operating “with the support of foreign intelligence services, including Israeli and American,” tried to cross the Iran-Iraq border, The Caspian Post reports via Israeli media.
The operation conducted by Iranian forces successfully neutralized the militants.
PJAK was founded in 2003 with the involvement of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party and has been fighting Tehran since 2004 for self-governance in Iran’s northwestern Kurdistan province. Its armed wing is based in the mountainous regions of northern Iran.
