Iran's Foreign Ministry said on Friday that a meeting between Iran, Iraq and the Gulf states will be held in Oman on Monday to discuss commercial shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz.

The meeting will address the outcome of negotiations between Tehran and Muscat on establishing safe routes for commercial shipping through the strategic waterway, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said in a statement, The Caspian Post reports, citing Anadolu Agency.

Baqaei said Iran and Oman had reached an understanding on temporary shipping lanes in the strait, adding: “Iran remains committed to ensuring the security of navigation in the strait.”

The statement comes amid heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington in recent days over the Strait of Hormuz, despite a memorandum signed in June that envisaged an agreement to reopen the strategic waterway as a prelude to a broader peace deal.
