Ten Indian sailors detained in Iran after their oil tanker was intercepted near the port of Jask in July 2025 have been released.

The sailors had been held in Iran following the seizure of the tanker MV Harbour Phoenix, The Caspian Post reports via Iran International.

India’s Directorate General of Shipping confirmed the release and said efforts are now underway to ensure the crew members return home as quickly as possible.

“The Directorate General of Shipping reaffirms its unwavering commitment to ensuring the welfare, safety and security of Indian seafarers worldwide,” the agency said in a statement.

The vessel was intercepted near the Iranian port of Jask, a strategically important location near the Strait of Hormuz, though further details surrounding the detention have not been officially disclosed.

Indian authorities are currently coordinating the necessary procedures for the sailors’ repatriation to India.
