Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has issued a warning targeting OpenAI’s planned data center in Abu Dhabi, in response to U.S. threats against the country’s power plants, The Caspian Post reports, citing foreign media.

The threat came via a video posted on April 3 to an Iranian state-backed news outlet’s X account.

In the video, the IRGC vowed “complete and utter annihilation” of U.S.-linked energy and technology companies in the region, while displaying an image of OpenAI’s $30 billion Stargate facility under construction in the United Arab Emirates.

The Abu Dhabi data center is part of OpenAI’s broader $500 billion Stargate project, which includes major investments from Oracle, Nvidia, Cisco, and SoftBank. The exact progress of the facility is unclear, though an update in October 2025 indicated that initial construction had begun. The update also noted that the facility, designed to support 16 gigawatts of computing power, was progressing “well underway” and aimed to deploy 200 megawatts by 2026. OpenAI has not yet responded to inquiries from The Verge.
