Iran will consider any vessel attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz with its navigation and identification systems switched off to be hostile, the naval forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have warned.

“All vessels in the Strait of Hormuz that turn off their navigation and identification systems will be classified as hostile,” the IRGC said, according to Lenta.ru.

Iranian military officials added that such vessels would face “decisive punishment.”

According to the statement, three oil tankers that violated Iran’s rules for crossing the Strait of Hormuz have struck naval mines and caught fire since October 10.

The warning comes amid heightened tensions surrounding maritime traffic through the strategic waterway, a key route for global oil shipments.
