Iraqi Airways has resumed direct flights to Iran after a months-long suspension, with the first post-suspension service operating from Najaf to Tehran.
The aircraft successfully landed at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport on October 8, according to Iran International.
Flights on the Najaf-Tehran route are expected to operate regularly.
Iraq’s Ministry of Transport said Iraqi Airways suspended flights to Iran in early March as a precautionary measure amid an escalation in the military conflict between Tehran and Washington.
The resumption of air services on October 8 became possible after the Iraqi government secured a special, limited waiver from the US allowing it to bypass certain sanctions restrictions to maintain key transportation links.
