The United States has announced a new round of Iran-related sanctions and issued a general license, according to a posting published on the US Treasury Department's website on Friday.
In a statement titled "Treasury Targets Key Supreme Leader Financier and Iran's Shadow Exchange Houses," the Treasury Department said the measures were introduced following Iran's renewed attacks on international shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, The Caspian Post reports.
According to the statement, the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) imposed sanctions on Iranian financial facilitator Ali Ansari, who it said oversees a vast global network of assets that benefit Iran's leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, and other senior figures within the Iranian regime.
The Treasury said the sanctions target what it described as a network of financial channels used to support Iran's leadership and its economic activities.
Separately, OFAC issued Iran General License Y, authorizing the wind-down of transactions involving Smart Global Limited.
