A new wave of missile and drone attacks attributed to Iran has struck several Gulf countries, including Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, dramatically escalating tensions across the Persian Gulf.

Qatar came under a missile attack in the early hours of the morning, The Caspian Post reports via foreign media.

Authorities raised the threat level at around 3 a.m. (GMT+3), and within minutes air defense systems intercepted missiles over the skies of Doha. Witnesses said around a dozen loud explosions were heard as defenses engaged incoming projectiles, lighting up the night sky with tracer fire and smoke trails.

The attack followed roughly 12 hours of relative calm in the country.

Other Gulf states also reported incidents linked to the same escalation. In Bahrain, officials said a drone strike in the Sitra area injured at least 32 people, while earlier attacks in the kingdom damaged key infrastructure.

In Saudi Arabia, the Ministry of Defence reported intercepting several drones targeting the Shaybah oilfield in the Rub’ al-Khali desert. The field, operated by Saudi Aramco, is capable of producing more than one million barrels of oil per day. Saudi air defenses also shot down drones north of Riyadh and intercepted a projectile aimed at the capital’s diplomatic district.

Meanwhile, authorities in the United Arab Emirates said they were dealing with a large fire in the Fujairah area after debris from an intercepted projectile fell to the ground.
