Qatar has lost its reputation as a reliable supplier of liquefied natural gas (LNG) amid escalating tensions linked to Iran.

The suspension of LNG shipments from Qatar is described as “unprecedented in scale and scope,” signaling potential disruption across global energy markets, The Caspian Post reports via foreign media.

LNG Supplies Disrupted

“The halt in supplies from Qatar is unprecedented in its magnitude,” said Ira Joseph, senior research scholar at the Center on Global Energy Policy at Columbia University. “In the short term, this will force everyone who needs LNG to bid higher for imports from the United States.”

Qatar’s Energy Minister Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi is facing what has been described as “the biggest crisis of his career” after an Iranian drone attack forced a shutdown at the country’s flagship LNG facility in Ras Laffan.

Shift Toward US LNG?

The increased LNG imports from the United States could reshape buyers’ perceptions of Qatar’s reliability and supply security. With global energy markets already on edge, any prolonged disruption could accelerate a shift in long-term contracts and strategic partnerships.
