Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has claimed that Iran and North Korea already attacked Ukraine, arguing that both countries supported Russia during the war.

Zelenskyy made the remarks in an interview with Sky News while commenting on Ukraine’s reported strike on an Iranian vessel in the Caspian Sea and Tehran’s subsequent warning that Ukraine could face a response, The Caspian Post reports via Ukrainska Pravda.

Zelenskyy said that Iran has supplied Russia with technology used in Shahed drones since the early days of the war, which Kyiv considers a form of “attack.”

He also referred to North Korea’s involvement in supporting Russia, saying Ukraine does not seek to expand the conflict but “must be ready” for the participation of both countries.

The comments come after Ukraine reportedly struck an Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea on July 25, killing one crew member.

Iran has warned that the incident could prompt a response against Ukraine, raising concerns over the potential expansion of the conflict beyond its immediate battlefield.

Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine is not seeking to widen the war, while maintaining that Kyiv needs to prepare for further involvement by Iran and North Korea.
