Kazakhstan’s Amanat Party has unveiled a major initiative called Alatau Amanaty, aimed at boosting mountain tourism by establishing a national network of tourist trails through the country’s most significant natural landscapes.
The project officially kicked off in the Ayusai Gorge, located within the Ile-Alatau State National Nature Park, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
It includes the creation of an extensive trail stretching over 1,200 kilometers from Charyn Canyon to the Tamgaly Tas archaeological site. This route will pass through 24 infrastructure hubs and 20 settlements, with a combined population of over 270,000.
Tourists along the trail will have access to ethno-villages, glamping and camping areas, visitor centers, rescue stations, and destinations focused on local cuisine and cultural experiences. The initiative is expected to foster a full-fledged ecosystem supporting both domestic and international adventure tourism, while also integrating rural communities into the economic development process.
Highlights along the route include popular attractions such as the Yesik State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve, the Kok-Zhailau plateau, Butakov Gorge, Alma-Arasan hot springs, Big Almaty Lake, the ancient city of Talhiz (8th-13th centuries), and the Oi-Qaragai mountain resort.
To mark the launch, a “plogging” event-picking up litter while jogging-was held in the mountains as part of the nationwide Taza Kazakhstan environmental campaign.
The Alatau Amanaty project is expected to be completed within 18 months.
