In Kurchatov, Kazakhstan, a section of a building under construction collapsed, leaving two people dead.

Videos from the scene have circulated on social media, with posts suggesting that the victims were an elderly couple trapped under the debris, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

The Abay Regional Police Department confirmed that the bodies were recovered after clearing the rubble.

“A pre-trial investigation has been launched into violations of construction safety rules that led to the negligent deaths of two or more people,” the statement said.

Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
