Experts Review Kazakhstan–Azerbaijan Partnership in Baku

A roundtable discussion on the current state and future prospects of the Kazakhstan-Azerbaijan relations has been held at the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Baku.

During the event, experts highly praised the outcomes of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s visit to Azerbaijan for the 12th Summit of the Organization of Turkic States, as well as President Ilham Aliyev’s state visit to Kazakhstan in October 2025, The Caspian Post reports via local media.

Participants noted that the high intensity of bilateral political dialogue is driving expanded cooperation across key areas and creating favorable conditions for implementing joint strategic projects in energy and transport.

Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Alim Bayel, highlighted the importance of major initiatives such as the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, the export of Kazakh oil and uranium via Azerbaijan, and the fiber-optic communication line across the Caspian Sea, scheduled for completion by the end of 2026. He also noted that in 2025 Kazakhstan became the largest supplier of wheat to the Azerbaijani market for the first time, expressing hope that this success will be sustained.

Participants also discussed the growing role of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) and Azerbaijan’s priorities during its chairmanship, including Baku’s initiative to establish a non-governmental organization (NGO) platform of OTS member states with a secretariat based in Azerbaijan.

Addressing broader regional cooperation formats, Farid Shafiyev, Chairman of the Center of Analysis of International Relations, proposed holding a C6 think tank forum in 2026, as well as exploring a similar initiative within the framework of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA).

The roundtable also covered expert assessments on energy and transport-logistics cooperation, scientific and analytical collaboration, and the development of cultural and humanitarian ties between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.
