Almaty’s Central Stadium has hosted a thrilling showdown as Kairat faced Astana in the final round of the Kazakhstan Premier League (KPL).
The packed stadium buzzed with excitement as fans awaited a decisive clash that would crown the league champion, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
Astana struck first in the 14th minute when Marin Tomasov weaved past defenders and slotted the ball into the corner, putting the visitors ahead 1-0. Kairat responded after halftime, with Dastan Satpaev capitalizing on a defensive error in the 56th minute to level the score at 1-1. Despite intense attacking from both sides, the score remained unchanged.
The draw was enough for Kairat to secure the top spot in the standings, earning the club its fifth national championship and marking back-to-back league victories. Astana, a seven-time champion, fell just short this season.
Adding to Kairat’s glory, goalkeeper Temirlan Anarbekov received a perfect 10 rating from SofaScore - joining football legends Manuel Neuer and Dmytro Riznyk as one of only three goalkeepers in history to achieve this honor.
Fans left the stadium celebrating Kairat’s historic triumph and another memorable season for Almaty’s football powerhouse.
