Kazakhstan continues its strong run at the XXV Summer Deaflympic Games in Tokyo, with taekwondo athletes Ayan Abdrash and Aizhamol Abdikatova securing bronze medals in the Kyorugi discipline.
Abdrash delivered a confident performance in the men’s 58 kg category - defeating rivals from China and Kyrgyzstan before narrowly falling to an Iranian athlete in the semifinals. He bounced back in the bronze-medal bout, edging Turkiye’s Muhammed Burak Ekinci 2:1, The Caspian Post informs via Kazakh media.
In the women’s 57 kg division, Abdikatova also powered through early rounds, beating competitors from Kyrgyzstan and China. Despite a semifinal loss to Iran, she dominated Venezuela’s Ortego Selsedo 2:0 to claim bronze.
Taekwondo competitions continue today with heavyweight matches, and Kazakhstan’s athletes are gearing up for more action across freestyle wrestling, table tennis, badminton, swimming, and athletics.
With 18 medals already - 7 gold, 3 silver, 8 bronze - Team Kazakhstan is shaping up for one of its strongest Deaflympic performances yet.
Earlier, Kazakhstan also celebrated five gold medals at the Canoe Marathon Asian Championships, highlighting a standout season for the nation’s athletes.
