Kazakhstan, Greece Renew Partnership Ahead of 33rd Diplomatic Anniversary

On the eve of the 33rd anniversary of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Greece, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Greece Timur Sultangozhin has met with Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Ioannis Loverdos to reaffirm their mutual commitment to strengthening political dialogue and expanding cooperation across trade, economy, energy, investment, and cultural and humanitarian sectors.

A significant part of the conversation focused on the role of the diaspora communities, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

Approximately 8,800 ethnic Greeks live in Kazakhstan, contributing to the country’s cultural diversity and interethnic harmony.

Meanwhile, around 60,000 Pontic Greeks, originally from Kazakhstan and Central Asia, now reside in Greece, playing an active role in the social and cultural life there. Both sides agreed on the importance of continuing to engage their diasporas and advancing “people’s diplomacy” initiatives.

The officials also explored opportunities to improve direct air travel between the two countries, including the resumption of regular flights and potential new routes to boost connectivity.

Cultural cooperation was another key topic, with plans discussed for joint cultural events such as Days of Culture, artistic tours, exhibitions, and festivals, as well as academic exchange programs between educational institutions.

Sultangozhin updated the Greek side on Kazakhstan’s latest national priorities, including economic modernization, human capital development, and political reforms, as outlined in the recent Address to the Nation.

Before concluding, the ambassador invited Loverdos to visit Kazakhstan at a convenient time to further strengthen ties.

Both parties pledged to maintain ongoing communication at the diplomatic level and continue making efforts to broaden cooperation in cultural, humanitarian, and diaspora engagement.
