Kazakhstan and India have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their strategic partnership, with senior officials pledging to expand political dialogue and boost cooperation in key sectors ahead of this year's BRICS Summit.

The commitment was made during talks between Kazakhstan's First Deputy Foreign Minister Yerzhan Ashikbayev and Indian Ambassador to Kazakhstan Sailas Thangal, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry.

The two sides reviewed the current state of bilateral relations and underscored their shared interest in broadening mutually beneficial cooperation across politics, trade, investment, and regional connectivity.

A major focus of the meeting was cooperation within BRICS. Ashikbayev congratulated India on assuming the 2026 BRICS chairmanship under the theme "Building Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability" and expressed confidence that New Delhi would successfully advance the group's priorities.

Kazakhstan reaffirmed its readiness, as a BRICS partner country, to contribute to joint initiatives in trade and investment, transport connectivity, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, energy, and sustainable development.

The officials also discussed preparations for the 18th BRICS Summit, scheduled to be held in New Delhi on September 12-13, including the agenda and organizational arrangements.

Beyond BRICS, the talks focused on expanding economic ties in strategic sectors such as energy, transport and logistics, critical minerals, digital technologies, pharmaceuticals, and agriculture.

Ashikbayev also presented several international initiatives proposed by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, including the creation of an International Water Organization, an International Agency for Biological Security, and a Global Coalition of Countries for Primary Health Care, while expressing hope for India's support.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on the future development of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).

The talks concluded with both countries reaffirming their intention to deepen cooperation and further strengthen the Kazakhstan-India strategic partnership across bilateral and multilateral platforms.
