Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan Ratify Landmark Embassy Property Agreement

Kazakhstan's Senate has ratified a bilateral agreement with Kyrgyzstan that will allow both countries to use embassy land plots and ambassadorial residences in Astana and Bishkek free of charge for an initial period of 49 years, with an option to extend the arrangement.

Signed in Bishkek on August 22, 2025, the agreement provides the legal framework for the transfer, registration, and long-term use of diplomatic properties by both countries, The Caspian Post reports via Kazinform.

Under the deal, Kazakhstan will receive a 0.75-hectare plot for its embassy in Bishkek, along with a 531.66-square-meter ambassador's residence on a 0.17-hectare site. In return, Kyrgyzstan will receive a 0.74-hectare embassy plot in Astana and a 1,267.8-square-meter ambassador's residence on an adjoining 0.125-hectare plot.

The agreement also exempts the designated diplomatic properties from taxes and fees in both countries. However, each side will remain responsible for construction, maintenance, repairs, and utility costs in accordance with the host country's regulations.
