The first session of the Qurultay of Kazakhstan of the first convocation has officially begun, with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev taking part in the opening proceedings.

The session follows the formal establishment of the country’s new representative body. On August 27, Kazakhstan’s Central Election Commission registered 145 deputies elected to the first convocation of the Qurultay, Kazinform reports.

Five political parties secured seats in the Qurultay following the election held on August 23.

The distribution of mandates gives the Adilet party the largest representation, with 110 deputies. The Auyl party has 10 seats, Respublica has nine, while the Nationwide Social Democratic Party and Ak Zhol each hold eight seats.

The parties had previously announced the candidates who would receive their respective mandates.
