Kazakhstan Launches Trade and Logistics Mega Project at Khorgos Border Hub

Kazakhstan has begun construction of a large-scale trade and logistics complex at the Khorgos International Border Cooperation Center, marking a major expansion of cross-border economic cooperation with China.

The new development - the Kazakhstan-China Friendship Park - is designed as a multifunctional hub combining trade, logistics, industrial services, digital infrastructure, and business facilities. The total investment is estimated at $587 million (around 4 billion yuan), The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

The first phase of the project includes an 800,000-square-meter exhibition and trade center showcasing products from both countries, alongside a 700,000-square-meter logistics complex. Plans also feature an international currency center, hotels, and supporting business infrastructure.

A second phase will add a 150,000-square-meter warehouse complex with cold storage facilities to support expanded supply chain operations.

The wider project will also include business hotels, a conference center, legal and financial services, medical facilities, a gastronomy zone, residential apartments, and a large shopping mall.

Special emphasis will be placed on digital trade and e-commerce, positioning Khorgos as a modern cross-border commerce hub.

The project is expected to create around 1,000 jobs, including 200 permanent positions for Kazakh citizens, and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027. Officials also expect it to significantly boost tax revenues from the Kazakh side of Khorgos, potentially doubling current levels.
