Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy has announced plans to increase gas transit volumes through Uzbekistan.
QazaqGaz and Uzbekistan’s Uztransgaz have signed a contract covering gas transit through Uzbek territory. Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov clarified that the agreement concerns the transit of Russian gas, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
“This is the transit of Russian gas. Overall, we are considering increasing transit volumes to 8.4 billion cubic meters per year,” the minister said.
Earlier, in 2024, QazaqGaz and Gazprom signed long-term agreements on transporting Russian gas to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan via Kazakhstan. These arrangements are set to remain in force until the end of 2040, reinforcing regional energy cooperation and transit infrastructure.
