Kazakhstan Reopens Modernized Railway Stations in Transport Upgrade

Kazakhstan has reopened two fully modernized railway stations in the East Kazakhstan region, marking another milestone in the country's ambitious effort to upgrade transport infrastructure nationwide.

The railway stations in Ridder and Shemonaikha have resumed operations following extensive renovations carried out under a national program aimed at modernizing 124 railway stations across the country, The Caspian Post reports via Kazinform.

The upgrades included renovated facades and interiors, improved passenger platforms, modern engineering systems, upgraded surrounding areas, and the installation of new furniture and equipment designed to enhance the travel experience.

The renewed stations serve as important transport hubs for East Kazakhstan and are expected to improve connectivity while providing greater comfort and convenience for both residents and visitors.

The modernized Ridder and Shemonaikha stations now offer expanded and upgraded facilities, with floor areas of 471 and 230 square meters, respectively. They are the first two of five railway stations in the region scheduled to reopen under the nationwide modernization initiative.

The project is part of Kazakhstan’s broader strategy to strengthen transport infrastructure and support regional development. Modernization work is continuing across the country, with authorities planning to commission 30 upgraded railway stations by July 1.

As the large-scale renovation program progresses, Kazakhstan is accelerating efforts to create a more modern, efficient, and passenger-friendly railway network.
