Kazakh Tourism and Sports Minister Yerbol Myrzabossynov has held a working meeting with Hugo Herrnhof, Director of Speed Skating at the International Skating Union (ISU), who arrived in Astana on a working visit.
The talks took place at the Alau Ice Palace, which is currently hosting the Junior Short Track World Cup, The Caspian Post informs via Kazakh media.
The two sides discussed the development of speed skating and short track in Kazakhstan, plans to deepen cooperation with the ISU, and preparations for the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milan.
Myrzabossynov highlighted Kazakhstan’s rapid progress in short track, noting the country’s first-ever gold medal at the Asian Winter Games earlier this year - a milestone for national sports.
Kazakhstan is hosting two stages of the Junior World Cup this season, reflecting its growing international reputation and strong organizational capabilities. In 2027, the country will host the Junior Short Track World Championships, set to become the biggest speed skating event in Kazakhstan’s history.
Hugo Herrnhof praised the Alau arena, the quality of event organization, and the potential of Kazakh athletes, emphasizing the ISU’s readiness to continue close cooperation with Kazakhstan.
